Manitoba Christian artist Jordan St.Cyr will be enjoying Christmas in July as he writes holiday tunes in Nashville this month.

After years of being a songwriter, this will be St.Cyr's first time writing and releasing Christmas music as an artist.

"From July 19 until the end of the week, I'm in Nashville writing Christmas songs. In order to give enough time for production and get to radio, we have to write the songs in July."

St.Cyr is hoping to write five or six holiday singles in that time. Two of his favourite classic Christmas songs are 'Silent Night' and 'Go Tell It on the Mountain.'

"I've wanted to record a Christmas song or album for years, but the timing hasn't been right. But I'm so grateful that this year is the year."

He's going state-side for another reason, partnering with some big Christian names.

"On July 20 I will be a part of the Red Bird artist songwriters round. It includes Cade Thompson, Michael Farren, and one of my favourite artists Mark Schultz. He sings one of my favourite songs, 'He's My Son' which  is one of the first songs that moved me to tears as a kid."

A songwriter's round is a popular event in Nashville, where a few artists play during the evening in a casual setting and go one-by-one playing a single of theirs acoustically.

"It's a neat experience for the listener," he says.

St.Cyr has met and played with Cade Thompson previously in 2019 in North Dakota, but as for Farren and Schultz, it'll be his first time meeting them.

"After the show, we'll kind of mingle and kind of dig in deeper into each other's lives. It's pretty relaxed, a very normal atmosphere. It's honestly one of my favourite things to be a part of."

For the month of August, St.Cyr will be touring states in the middle of the USA. He hopes to do a few local shows in Manitoba come September, depending on the restrictions.
