The Province announced new funding for post-secondary students earlier this week that now extends to post-secondary Christian schools.

The province increased funding of the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative (MSBI) to $6.75 million in 2017-18. Five new institutions have been incorporated in the changes to MSBI including:

  • Manitoba Institute of Trade and Technology
  • Canadian Mennonite University
  • Booth University College
  • Providence University College
  • Steinbach Bible College

Four of the new schools are Christian post-secondary schools, including Providence University College, where for every $2 privately raised the provincial government will raise $1 to a maximum of $25,000.

"We want to be included when they think about institutions that are providing education to Manitobans," said Jerrad Peters, the Creative Content Specialist at Providence. "This is just one more way we can make it a more affordable experience for students."

Altogether, Providence will provide $500,000 in scholarships and bursaries in 2017-18 as they remain committed to the highest standard of education.

"It is encouraging that the provincial government has continued to recognize the important role Providence and other faith-based educational institutions play in the grand scheme of post-secondary education," said President Dr. David Johnson in a release.
