A 19-year-old man was arrested over the weekend following a serious collision involving an ambulance.

At around 4 a.m. on Saturday, a Toyota Matrix was driving northbound on Plessis at a high rate of speed. The driver continued to speed through the intersection at Regent Avenue West, slamming into a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service ambulance travelling westbound en route to a call.

The crash caused significant damage to the ambulance forcing it to spin and face a completely different direction.

The occupants of the Matrix were taken to hospital, where they were treated and released. The Paramedics in the damaged ambulance were assessed at the scene.

A 19-year-old man is facing a charge of operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by BAC or drug or combination of both. He was released from custody.
