Some Manitoban ice royalty has announced some exciting news this weekend.

Kaitlyn Lawes, one of the province's brightest curling stars, took to Twitter Saturday morning to announce that she and her partner, Stephan Vigier, are expecting a child.

"For the past 22 weeks we have quietly enjoyed sharing some exciting news (with) close family & friends..now we would like to share with you," Lawes writes excitedly in the post.

Lawes says the pair "are excited to announce we are expecting! Baby Vigier is expected to make his or her arrival early December."

Lawes spent 12 years playing third for the legendary Jennifer Jones rink, before announcing this spring that she would skip her own team this coming season. She hasn't announced plans yet for the upcoming winter with a new bundle coming into the house.

Vigier is originally from Notre Dame de Lourdes, Man. He played 18U AAA with the Pembina Valley Hawks before moving up to the Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL. He then played in the USHL and NCAA before spending several seasons playing professional hockey in various leagues including the AHL and ECHL.

Hundreds of people have already reacted to the post and wished the couple congratulations.
