A month's worth of rain fell in two days in southern B.C., wreaking havoc on the region's highways, roads, rivers -- and travellers.

Torrential rain caused landslides that closed several highways and flooding that overwhelmed rivers and inundated the city of Merritt.

Three military helicopters were used to fly out 275 people who were trapped between two slide sites on Highway 7 near Agassiz.

Rescue crews will spend today searching for anyone who may have been buried under the debris field.

Multiple roadways have been closed because of flooding or landslides, including sections of Highway 1A, Highway 3, Highway 11, Highway 12, and Highway 91.

More than 20 emergency centres have been activated to help house stranded travellers.
