A professor from the University of Manitoba's Department of Community Health Sciences is sharing how we can safely conduct transactions when buying and selling using online marketplaces.

Many Winnipeggers are looking to stay out of stores and help support local residents. One of the ways people have been doing that is by buying and selling items using online marketplaces such as HelloGoodBye and on Facebook Marketplace. 

Dr. Michelle Driedger, a Professor and Graduate Program Director of the University of Manitoba's Community Health Sciences department shares that Winnipeggers can safely sell items to each other during a pandemic if they take precautions.

  • use electronic transfers when possible
  • ask if anyone in the home is feeling ill
  • avoid transactions if a member from your households ill
  • Those buying and selling should find solutions that work best for the transaction.

    "Even when you are going to pick it up, the person leaves the item on the front step and knows that you are there. Maybe you have a conversation at a distance."
