One person was taken to hospital after two fires in Winnipeg Friday night and Saturday morning.

The first blaze occurred at the 200 block of Milton Street near Weston Park in a house under construction.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the fire at 9:47 p.m. and found the house completely engulfed in flames.

The fire reached the two neighbouring houses, one of which was occupied. The other was also under construction.

Crews used a defensive attack and declared the fire under control at 10:45 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated from the home and no injuries were reported. The two homes that were under construction are considered complete losses. The other home suffered some smoke and fire damage.

Drivers in the area should be cautious of ice on the road that is the result of the water used to fight the fire. The area is being monitored by city crews and sand and de-icing agents are being used as necessary.

The second fire took place before 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 13 ina two-storey, multi-family home located in the 800 block of McDermot Avenue.

Smoke was coming from the structure when crews arrived. After an offensive attack, the fire was contained to the suite it started in. At 8:10 a.m., the fire was declared under control.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated and one person was transported to hospital by paramedics on-scene in stable condition.

WFPS say both fires remain under investigation with no damage estimates available at this time.
