Uzoma Asagwara made history tonight and Jamie Moses quickly followed suit, becoming the first black MLAs to ever be elected in Manitoba's history.

Asagwara won the Union Station riding for the NDP. Union Station came from the riding of Logan, and 2019 was its first election.

Asagwara is a psychiatric nurse specializing in adult and youth mental health and addictions. She is also a former University of Winnipeg Wesmen basketball player.

Jamie Moses also picked up a seat for the NDP in the riding of St. Vital.

Moses took away a Cabinet Minister from the Tories by defeating the incumbent MLA Colleen Mayer. The two had run against one another in the 2016 election with fewer than 400 votes separating them.

This time around Moses had an 835 vote lead with 38 of 42 polls reporting Tuesday evening.

Progressive Conservative candidate Audrey Gordon joined the record books in the riding of Southdale.

Her riding was one of the last to be called and came down to the very last poll. Gordon beat NDP candidate Karen Myshkowsky by 531 votes.

It was one of the most diverse elections when it comes to candidates. There were dozens of candidates who are people of colour that ran for the Liberals, NDP, and Conservatives.

There were also 24 Indigenous candidates running between all three parties.
