Hillsong Church is raising funds to support firefighters and bring relief resources to those impacted by the Australian bushfires.

The well-known worship band based church is now spreading hope and love through more than their popular songs. The church outlined their involvement in the bushfire relief efforts on Friday, January 10, 2020.

Since the start of the bushfires, the nation has suffered a large number of losses. Several people have lost their lives in the fires and thousands have lost their homes. More than 12 million hectares are reported to be scorched.

"Our response as a church in any crisis like this involves a two-fold approach which not just looks after the immediate needs but also looks to the long-term recovery and wellbeing of those who are suffering," says Hillsong Church in the website announcement.

"The outpouring of generosity from our church and global friends and family has ensured that we can be there for families..."

Since the fires began four months ago the church has been involved. They are working with food banks, Salvation Army, providing basic necessities and now, raising an immense amount of funds.

The church says the work is not yet finished. "There is still so much to do. Yet the outpouring of generosity from our church and global friends and family has ensured that we can be there for families for the days, weeks and months to come.

Pastor Brian Houston, Global Senior Pastor of Hillsong Church shared with social media followers saying that the Hillsong Global Bushfires appeal has raised $1,003,988,52. They will continue to work with the Salvation Army, Foodbank, support volunteer firefighters and more as needed.

"Please continue to pray for our nation, our leaders, firefighters and communities affected and for rain that will end the drought in our scorched land," Hillsong Church says.
