A number of highways have been closed in southern Manitoba as a large storm system has moved into the province.

Conditions have quickly deteriorated on many highways Sunday evening. Heavy snowfall coupled with high winds have combined to make for treacherous driving conditions.

The City of Winnipeg and other areas of Manitoba are under snowfall warnings, while others are under winter storm warnings.

Some schools have already cancelled classes for Monday by 11:00 p.m. Sunday night, as well.

Highway closures as of 11:30 p.m. include:

  • Highway 3, from Highway 14 to Carman and Thornhill to Clearwater.
  • Highway 13, from Carman to Elm Creek.
  • Highway 16, from the Saskatchewan Border to Newdale.
  • Highway 21, from Shoal Lake to Oakburn.
  • Highway 23, from Miami to Roland and from Highway 342 to Deerwood.
  • Highway 31, from Highway 3 to the US Border.
  • Highway 34 from Highway 245 to the US Border.
  • Highway 45, from Oakburn to Elphinstone.
  • Highway 242, from US Border to Somerset.
  • Highway 244, from Manitou to Notre Dame.
  • Highway 245, from Carman to highway 245.
  • Highway 264, from Highway 83 to Highway 16.
  • Highway 428, from Winkler to Roland.
  • Highway 432, from Morden to Highway 23.
