Assiniboine Park is hosting a wide variety of family fun events to celebrate the day dedicated to the elderly to spread awareness about their importance.

September 11 is known as National Grandparents' Day, a time to connect and spend time with family and loved ones.

Assiniboine Park Conservancy is hosting an event on Sunday to celebrate this national day. To lead these events will be A&O: Support Services for Older Adults.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Assiniboine Park, the Lyric stage and the surrounding field, A&O is presenting a day filled with intergenerational activities, exhibits and entertainment.

Not only is the event going to have fun activities, but there will also be a portion dedicated to raising awareness about ageism, which is discrimination against someone based on their age, and emphasizing the importance of respect.

Assiniboine Park and A&O hope this event shows the public the path toward intergenerational sensitivity and understanding.

The event is free and some activities include resource booths, break-out sessions, active living demonstrations, storytelling, music, scavenger hunts, face painting and more.
