Below average temperatures and high winds will be combining to make the first full week of November a chilly one in southern Manitoba.

Brad Vrolijk from Environment Canada says that below seasonal temperatures this week are largely to blame.

In Winnipeg, overnight temperatures will fall to -19 overnight. With wind gusts of 50 km/h, that could mean windchills of -27 to -29. Most of southern Manitoba can expect windchills in that range, according to Vrolijk.

"It looks like pretty much for the Red River Valley and into southwestern Manitoba, it will be low minus twenties tomorrow morning, and then windchill shouldn't be much of an issue until maybe Wednesday evening and into Thursday."

Vrolijk says we can expect below seasonal temperatures for at least most of this week. The good news, he says, is that "it does look like a trend toward seasonal temperatures beginning late in the week or the weekend into early next week." However, he also cautions, "but again, that's also a long way off and things can change between now and then."

That's something we know all too well on the Canadian prairies, However, Vrolijk says, "there may be light at the end of the tunnel."
