After a parched summer, parts of Manitoba could now be seeing heavy rainfall throughout Friday and Saturday, prompting Environment Canada to issue rainfall warnings for some areas.

Areas affected include much of Westman, as well as areas north and east of Winnipeg.

Rain began to fall Friday morning for many areas, and Environment Canada says that over the following 24 hours 60 to 90 mm are expected for southeastern Manitoba. Western Manitoba may see anywhere between 50 and 75 mm by Saturday morning.

Environment Canada reminds residents of affected areas that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
