Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services (WFPS) says there are no injuries after an accidental house fire earlier today.

A single-family home in the 400 block of King Edward Street near Polo Park caught fire around 2:36 p.m. Sunday.

WFPS say crews encountered smoke in the house upon arrival and launched an offensive attack.

The fire is believed to have started due to combustible items that were kept too close to the hot water tank in the home, WFPS says according to preliminary observations.

The fire was declared under control just before 3:00 p.m. No injuries were reported from the fire and all occupants from the home self-evacuated after being prompted by a working smoke alarm.

WFPS are reminding all residents to keep any flammable materials away from heat sources in their homes.
