Winnipeg firefighters were kept busy on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, fighting two fires in temperatures around -30 with windchills of -40.

Crews were first called just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday to a business in the 0-100 block of Sage Creek Boulevard.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says in a release that when crews arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:41 p.m.

No people were inside the building when crews conducted a search and there were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.

Just before 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey home in the 700 block of Alfred Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.
