Winnipeg fire crews were kept busy Sunday evening battling a house fire in the West End.

The blaze broke out just after 7:30 p.m. in a garage in the 500 block of Sherbrook Street. When crews arrived, they found the fire had spread from the garage to a nearby vehicle and a vacant two-and-a-half-storey, multi-family residence.

Sherbrook Street was closed for several hours as firefighters put out hotspots.

One firefighter was injured. They were assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries have been reported.

There is no word on a cause or damage estimate.

Fire officials continue to investigate.
