Media gathered at the historic Fort Gibraltar for the kickoff to the 48th edition of Festival du Voyageur.

Festival du Voyageur kicks off tomorrow afternoon. The theme is Hého Heroes, which Ginette Laback Waters, the executive director of Festival, says is about the people of our city. "We thought it was a time to celebrate all Winnipeggers that are really embracing winter," Laback Waters said. "We're heroes to be enjoying this type of weather regardless of the temperature outside."

It's also Canada's 150th, so the theme celebrates all the people responsible for making Canada what it is today. "In our mind, they are heroes as well," Laback Waters said.

Wondering if it's a good event to bring the family too? Laback Waters says that there are many activities for the whole family, including children's entertainers, arts and crafts, snowshoe treks and more. "Maple taffy," Laback Waters said. "You can't get away from the festival without trying maple taffy on snow."
