RCMP are investigating a tragic morning collision north of Winnipeg which claimed the life of a 29-year-old man and his one-year-old son.

The Manitoba RCMP says that emergency crews were called to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 in the RM of Woodlands around 7 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Police say that so far, their investigation has determined that the victims' vehicle was travelling south on Highway 6 when it went into the oncoming lane and collided with a semi-truck going north.

The father and son were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 74-year-old male, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Icy conditions are believed to be a factor in the collision, according to the RCMP.

Stonewall RCMP along with a traffic reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
