Environment Canda says that while Christmas will bring warming temperatures, leading up to the day will be frosty.

Manitoba will be feeling temperatures severely dip overnight Wednesday into Thursday. A bitter cold north wind is blowing through the prairies, bring extreme wind chills of -40 overnight into the morning. This cold means frostbite can occur in minutes.

Those who have chronic illnesses, working or exercising outdoors, without proper shelter, or are older adults or children are at greater risk during the cold.

"If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside," Environment Canada says in a statement.

Christmas Day will bring warmer temperatures than normal due to a warm front.
