  • The Altona Memory Garden service is at 6:30 pm. The garden is located across from Gardens on Tenth on Tenth Ave. N. To purchase a plant in memory of a loved one, contact Altona Rec office.
  • Gretna Prairie Centre is hosting a ladies dessert night beginning at 6:30 pm. The evening includes an auction, entertainment by violinist Joanna Ginter, and guest presenter Edith Banman who is a button historian, so bring your buttons from your Grandma’s button jar and she can tell you more about them. Tuesday, June 6

  • An introduction to hula hooping fitness begins 6:00 at Emerson School. Two more sessions will follow on the 13th and 20th. Cost is $80 and you can register at Red River Recreation.

Wednesday, June 7

  • Morden Recreation Department is putting on an evening to learn about the sport of fencing. This is open to all ages but participants must be at least eight years old. This event is at 6:30 at Morden Access Event Centre. Reserve your spot with Stephanie at Morden Recreation.

Thursday, June 8

  • Altona Senior Centre is hosting a waffle breakfast beginning at 8:30. Cost is $7.
  • A blood donor clinic is taking place at Altona’s Rhineland Pioneer Centre from 2 to 7 pm. Make your appointment at blood.ca or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE. Walk-ins are also welcome.
  • Walk for Alzheimer’s is taking place at Saint Claude Health Centre beginning at 11. For more details visit Alzheimer.mb.ca.

Saturday, June 10

  • The Sturgeon Foundation Golf Tournament. Tee off is at noon at Kyle Memorial Golf Course, Dominion City. Register with Glenn at 204-427-2376.
  • “Ring in the Summer” at Morris Park with free swimming, kids’ activities, beach volleyball tournament, hot dog lunch and more. Proceeds go to the Splash Park project.

Saturday and Sunday

  • “Steps for Pets” walk-a-thons are being held June 10th at Altona Park and June 11th at Morden Park. Registration is at 2:30 pm with the walk getting underway at 3. A free barbeque for participants will follow. Get your pledge forms at pvhsociety.ca or call 204-822-9413.
  • Montcalm Heritage Festival is happening at St. Joseph. Enjoy a free pancake breakfast Saturday morning, flea market, parade, petting zoo, museum tours, family baseball, and more. Saturday’s events also include a remote controlled air show, children’s entertainment, live music and a barbeque supper. A Sunday morning Mass begins at 9:30 followed by brunch at 11, an afternoon of entertainment, barbeque supper and a show with Corny Rempel as Johnny Cash. Bring your lawn chairs. Admission to the festival is free.
