It's Earth Day across the world and, like so many others in Canada, our city is gearing up with events of all kinds for all ages!

If you were around when the lunar landings of the late 60s went down, you'll probably remember seeing this image explode across the world - it's called "Earth Rise." This single photograph showed the world in way we'd never seen it before - small and vulnerable, but sparkling and oh-so-beautiful - and is believed to have played a key part in igniting the public acceptance of the environmental movements of the 1970s onward to the present. One thing is for sure - the Earth is God's and everything in it.

Earth Day celebrates 25 years today, and here's how you can take part in the city of Winnipeg!

TODAY

Manitoba Children's Museum - The museum is offering a discount to children K-5, and they're putting on fun activities, the flagship of which involves creating new things from recycled materials. More info here.

Oak Hammock Marsh - Marshes play a huge environmental role in the province and across the nation, and staff from Oak Hammock are conducting guided tours of the marshes today. Those who participate in volunteer garbage pickup can even win prizes! More info here.

Downtown BIZ - Winnipegers picked up a total of 1.134 metric tons of Garbage off of downtown streets last year on Earth Day. Join volunteers this year to beat that record and clean up the downtown! Afternoon events and rally points are happening at Thunderbird House on Mainstreet as well as the Millenium Library Park. Check it out here!
