A fire early Wednesday morning has claimed a life.

Just after 4 a.m. emergency crews responded to reports of a fire in a duplex on Vivian Avenue, near the corner of St. Mary's Road. 

When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke coming from one of the units. Crews entered and fought the fire from inside the building. The fire was extinguished at 5:01 a.m.

Damage was contained to the suite where it originated.

While search the building, crews found one person, who was declared dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
