After more than two years, Pastor Ramón Rigal has finally been released from prison in Cuba and has returned home to his family.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) announced his release, CBN News reports.

Rigal and his wife, Ayda Expósito, were both imprisoned by the communist regime in Cuba in April 2019 for homeschooling their children. The couple was concerned about the promotion of socialism and atheism in Cuban public schools.

Later, the couple was sentenced for offences like "other acts against the normal development of a minor."

Expósito was released earlier this year, in April 2020.

mmediately cease harassing this couple and allow all Cuban parents, including the Rigals, to raise their children pursuant to their own faith."

While the couple has now been freed, the journalist who covered the Rigel's trial remains in prison.

Roberto Jesus Quinones Haces was detained while trying to report on the trial and then sentenced for "disobedience."
