The Winnipeg Police Services says that despite locals self-isolating, it is still "business as usual" for authorities.

Jay Murray from the Winnipeg Police Service says that they are taking extra precautions to "help flatten the curve" but that does not mean crime in Winnipeg has slowed for officers.

"The very nature of crime is that it is often random, and we regularly observe arbitrary fluctuations week-to-week," Murray says.

It is still too early to tell if self-isolation will result in a change in crime rates, but Murray adds that the Winnipeg Police Service is still seeing all types of crimes.

To help protect officers from the possible contraction of COVID-19, the City of Winnipeg ordered for police services to temporarily close its doors to the public for non-urgent matters. 911 operators are also asking additional questions regarding COVID-19 to protect first responders.

Murray says that officers are operating by following COVID-19 regulations set out by the city and province.
