Canadian Christian News Service released information today that Compassion Canada has confirmed they will need to end their child sponsorship programs in India effective March 15.

Their programs have helped more than 280,000 children and therefore their families in the 48 years they have worked in the country.

For almost a year now Compassion has been trying every avenue to resolve some funding issues with India's Ministry of Home Affairs who were blocking their money from reaching their country offices and church partners throughout India. Unfortunately, no restrictions were lifted causing this decision to now be made.

Compassion Canada pulling out of India will impact almost 147,000 babies, children, and young adults. It also affects 127 staff.

About 4,700 Canadians sponsor more than 5,000 children in India.

The local churches in India will be doing their best to fill the gap for these children in need. Partners International has been in India since 1977 and is hoping to help some of these churches so that they can access funds to help the children.
