People around the world are sending prayers and condolences after a shooting at a megachurch in the USA on Sunday.

In between services at Houston's Lakewood Church, pastored by Joel Osteen, a woman armed with a rifle opened fire. Two off-duty police officers who were working as security returned fire, and killed the suspect. A child and an adult male were also injured.

"Carrying my Lakewood family in my heart tonight," worship artist and pastor, Tauren Wells posted to Facebook. "I’m grateful to hear of the preparation of security teams and swift action of law enforcement. May God be close and his people filled with defiant courage to keep showing up!"

Pastor Joel Osteen released a statement to his Instagram profile, thanking law enforcement for their prompt response and asking for continued prayer for healing and peace.

While he shares that it's times like these that faith is tested, it also makes it stronger. Saying on Instagram, "We don't always understand why things like this happen, but we know that God is in control."
