Residents in St. Vital will soon be able to enjoy the renovations at Greendell Park Community Centre.

Home to multiple programs like baseball, dance, soccer, tae kwon do, badminton and pickleball, the Greendell Park Community Centre is a family gathering place in St. Vital.

"Greendell Park Community Centre s a neighbourhood destination and a family tradition in St. Vital," said Councillor Brian Mayes in a release.. "These facility upgrades will ensure that families can participate in recreation activities in a comfortable building for years to come."

The improvements began in mid-February and include a new electrical distribution system, a new HVAC system, plus a new suspended ceiling in the lobby.

"These substantial renovations could only be possible with the community spirit, commitment, vision and dedication of the board of directors, volunteers and staff, in partnership wit the city and province," said Sport, Heritage and Culture Minister Rochelle Squires in a release. "Our investments will ensure Greendell Park remains a vibrant place of activity and hub of community life in the heart of my constituency of Riel." Squires was there on behalf of Eileen Clarke, Minister of Indigenous and Municipal Relations.

The project is funded equally by the Manitoba government and the City of Winnipeg for a total of $330,000, and will be completed in summer 2017.
