1 Peter 2:9

There are few things more frustrating than encountering individuals content to remain living in the status quo. I call those folks people with a “No” face! Many are so fearful of change, they cocoon themselves in well-guarded shelters of skepticism, doubt, rigidity, and even fear.

Even worse are those who for unknown reasons choose to remain in bondage to their sin—huddled in dark shadows of unbelief. But as followers of Christ, none of that ought to describe you or me.

Peter, the rough-and-rugged fisherman from Galilee, once stuck in his working-class mindset, wrote,

You are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).

Are you an eagle-type, soaring to heights beyond your peers? Do you find yourself bored with the maintenance of the machinery ... yawning through the review of the rules ... restless to cut a new swath ... excited rather than intimidated by the risks? Don’texpect pats on the back or ongoing waves of applause. Not today. Chances are good you'll lose a few jobs, fail a few courses, ruffle numerous feathers, and be the subject of the town gossip. So it goes with soaring saints! Or perhaps you’re a Christian living in the power of the Spirit, filled with the joy of the Lord. All around you are fellow believers, still stuck in their carnal ways.

Take heart! God is for you. Be an encouragement to those who’ve not yet discovered the freedom you know. He may use you to bring someone out into the light of His grace!
