City of Winnipeg staff will be going door to door to read water meters. Here's what you need to know.

From today, until the end of August, City of Winnipeg staff will be visiting homes weekdays between 2:30 p.m. and dusk.

The City said in a press release that each meter reader will have photo identification, a hand-held computer and a uniform with the City of Winnipeg logo.

For your safety, it is strongly recommended that you first ask to see identification before allowing a meter reader into your home.

The city also says that meter readers will only knock at front and side doors, and will not knock at back doors. All dogs must also be secured either in another room or a kennel before meter readers will enter the home.

The City of Winnipeg requires at least one meter reading per year from each household.
