Wondering if the park you're going to has soccer fields, an off-leash dog area, AND a space to barbeque? Now you can go online to find out.

The City of Winnipeg has launched an interactive map for parks and open spaces that informs people what amenities each offers.

Manager of parks and open space Dave Domke says Winnipeg has more than 1,000 parks, and the city wanted to make a tool that allows people to find park amenities quickly. That tool is now live, and allows people to search by amenities, keywords, and location.

"An example might be, there's a great demand actually for pickleball these days -- which is a type of tennis that's played with a bat and a wiffle ball -- and if you're one of the pickleball enthusiasts then you just need to check off the pickleball box and about a dozen sites will come up across the city of Winnipeg."

Domke says this initiative came out of the city's asset management strategy. He says they've started to do an inventory of all parks to determine the condition of their assets.

He says booking online is something they're still working on, but you can call the park booking office to look into getting exclusive use of a park amenity.
