The Urban Forestry Branch will be conducting an inventory of ash trees on private property, which may result in City staff entering your yard.

Starting May 1, the City will continue its preparation for the arrival of the emerald ash borer beetle by conducting an inventory of ash trees.

Urban Forestry staff are authorized to enter private property to conduct the inventory under the provisions of the Manitoba Forest Health Protection Act. All City staff will be carrying official City and provincial identification cards.

The emerald ash borer is a destructive invasive pest that feeds on and kills all ash trees. Because many of the City's ash trees are located on private property, the inventory is critical for the preparedness efforts.

The closest confirmed infestations of the emerald ash borer beetle are in Thunder Bay, Ontario and in Duluth, Minnesota.

You can hep keep the emerald ash borer out of Winnipeg by:

  • not moving your firewood. Especially, don't move firewood into Manitoba from outside of Manitoba. Buy local and leave where you bought it.
  • Report suspect ash trees to the City of Winnipeg
