The Winnipeg Rowing Club is having their open house tomorrow, so CHVN headed down there to find out what rowing was all about.

Janine Stephens started rowing 17 years ago and hasn't been able to stop. Now the president of the Winnipeg Rowing Club, she wants to share her passion with the city.

"Rowing is really a full-life sport," Stephens said. "People just do it for life and it's a good 'get outside and do something' and also good for fitness."

Stephens is also the head provincial coach for Manitoba Rowing. There may not be many people better qualified than her to teach, since Stephens is an Olympic silver medalist and has raced at both the 2008 Bejing Olympic Games and the 2012 London Olympics.

"It's fun to come back into a coaching role," Stephens said. "It's fun to be able to pass my insight and my experience onto them."

With the Canada Summer Games coming to Winnipeg this summer, Stephens has been working to train athletes to compete in it. This is familiar territory to Stephens as well, as she won two bronze medals back in 2001 at the Canada Summer Games.

"It's fun to share my experience of the games and winning a medal and what that felt like," Stephens said.

The Winnipeg Rowing Club wants to share a bit of that experience with others. If you've always wanted to try out rowing and see what it's about, head to 20 Lyndale Drive between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3.
