Jordan St. Cyr may call Niverville home, but he's winning awards in Nashville.

He's just won the Nashville Songwriter's Competition.

"It's super awesome to be from small town Manitoba and being recognized in a big music city. It's fantastic."

Nashville is known to be a place where musicians will gather from all corners of the globe.

"I'd say like 95% of people don't know where Winnipeg is. They know that Canada's up there somewhere, but they don't really know."

He is also busy creating some fantastic new music, just releasing his newest single, Victory.

"We're really excited about this."

He wrote it with Ben Calhoun who is the vocalist and guitar player from Citizen Way. Micah Kuiper, the guitarist from Hawk Nelson, produced the song.

"Just wanted it to be fun and happy and we talk about this truth that we have and this victory in Jesus and that should be exciting and that should be fun so that's kind of the sound we wanted to put towards the message."

The sound of this single is new for Jordan St. Cyr, but the reason behind why he chose the message isn't. He will often write songs to prepare himself for future circumstances.

"You have to sing what you believe. For me, it's all about writing songs that speak into my future life. If I want victory in Jesus and maybe I'm not seeing it in certain areas of my life, I think if I want victory in those areas, and I sing about it now, I believe I can stand on that. For things that I'm not seeing victory in or future issues that I may go through, I can use this song as a tool to speak life into those areas."
