Jesus Christ is now officially listed as the senior pastor of a church in the United States after they amended their bylaws to make it so.

Two years ago NewSpring Church in South Carolina lost their founding and lead pastor Perry Noble due to alcohol abuse.

Now the church is bouncing back after they decided to restructure to take on what they felt was a more biblical view of leadership. That view is a team-based approach rather than a hierarchical one.

The megachurch has 14 different campuses throughout South Carolina. Teaching Pastor Clayton King, who was appointed interim senior pastor after Noble's departure, says that the new approach has the church in a much healthier place.

"We are a true team approach to ministry now," he told the Essential Church podcast. "I was senior pastor for one year but now our church has one senior pastor and we've literally in our new bylaws named Jesus Christ as our senior pastor. So we are structured differently now. It's a true team approach and let me tell you, I love it."

The church is currently run by a team of four lead pastors, three teaching pastors including King, as well as 14 campus pastors, according to the Christian Post.

King said that since taking on the new leadership model the church has grown to feel more like family.

"We feel very confident that the Holy Spirit gave us that word. We use the phrase a lot around our church 'No ordinary family.' We had a series called 'No Ordinary Family,'" he said.

King had also revealed in the podcast that the church was $47 million in debt when Noble left. King says that they've been able to cut that down to $36 million in less than two years.
