The Salvation Army is hosting six weeks of kids day 'kamp' for kids age 6-11 this summer.

Gail Flores is the Assistant Kids Kamp Coordinator with the Salvation Army.

"It runs from July 4 up until August 12," says Flores. "It's a really great opportunity for children to go out there this summer and make new friends. Our day camp is special because each week has its very own theme."

The themes include The Kingdom and Its Army, Little Engineers, Environmental Awareness, Science, Ice Age, and finally a space theme called 'To Infinity and Beyond.'

"This is a special day camp. Overall day camps are great for children because they help kids to keep learning during the summer. What sets our camp apart is that we are faith-based. It's a really good opportunity for kids to not only strengthen their knowledge over the summer but also practise their spirituality and learn about religion at their own pace."

The days run from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. For parents looking to sign their kids up, one week is $100 for the first child, $75 for the second, and $65 for the third. People can email Gail to register their children at thesalvationarmykidskamp@gmail.com.

The day camp will take place at 825 School Road in Winnipeg.
