The Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service is reminding parents to talk to their children about the dangers of playing with fire after a Friday night blaze.

At 8:50 p.m. on August 30, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a home on Claudia Place. Once on scene, crews launched an offensive attack to extinguish a fire in one of the bedrooms. The fire was declared under control at 9:13 p.m.

Occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed by paramedics on scene but did not require transport to hospital.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental due to a child playing with matches.

Parents are reminded to talk to their children about the dangers of playing with fire. Lighters and matches should always be stored in a place which children cannot reach.
