All vehicles driving east from Manitoba today will see a checkpoint on the highway, meant to enforce COVID-19 restrictions that prohibit non-essential travel into Ontario.

OPP spokesman Bill Dickson says everything will be required to slow down at the provincial boundary, but not everyone will have to stop.

Dickson says commercial trucks will be waived through, and so will vehicles with Ontario license plates.

People will be allowed through the checkpoints if they need to get to work or meet the criteria for other exemptions.
