After sharing his decision to push back tour dates until next year, Chance the Rapper took a very public opportunity to point people to God.

The 26-year-old artist, whose given name is Johnathan Bennett, has had an incredibly blessed year so far, he says. Marriage, the birth of his daughter, Marli, and the release of his first album have all contributed to a year that he called "one of the greatest of my life."

While sharing the significant highs he has been giving thanks for, a chance to share his blessings presented itself to the artist while appearing as a guest on "The Ellen Show," reports Faithwire.

Bennett had the chance to speak publically on the subject of his faith when asked by the show's host, Ellen DeGeneres, why he gives so much money to charity.

“Why is it important for you to give back?" DeGeneres inquired of the rapper, after informing the audience of the millions of dollars that Bennett has given to charity.

After a second of hesitation, the rapper explained the significant role of faith in his life. "So, my understanding of a lot of stuff is based on Jesus," he said. "Jesus teaches to be, like, you know, to care for your neighbor, care for people who aren’t necessarily your blood but still a part of your body, because we’re all humans.”

Bennett also shared that his parents had taught him the importance of caring for and giving to others who are in need, concluding that a "mix" of his parents and Jesus had contributed to his habit of generosity.

It's not the first time the artist has shared his beliefs. In December 2018, Bennett announced he would be taking a time of sabbatical to spend studying scripture.

Recently, the rapper also announced he would be taking time off before his next tour in order to focus on his wife and kids.

I thought it over for the past week and I’ve decided to push back my tour. This year has been one of the greatest of my life; Marriage, new baby, first album etc. But with it being so eventful it has also been very strenuous having to divide my time and energy between family and work. When Kensli was born, I went on tour 2 weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most. At this point as a husband and father of two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again. I need to be as helpful and available as possible to my wife in these early months of raising Kensli and Marli. I apologize because I know how many people were counting on seeing me soon, but I hope you’ll understand and forgive me in time. Tour kicks off Jan. 15th and you can still get tix or your refund if you are unavailable at chanceraps.com & a few of the shows are still being rescheduled as well so stay tuned. I love you guys AND LITERALLY CANT WAIT FOR U TO WITNESS THIS SHOW 🙏🏾🙏🏾 SIDENOTE: 9/28 CHICAGO AT UNITED CENTER IS STILL ON AS WELL AS “LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL FEST” “IHEART MUSIC FEST” & “MIAMI BEACH POP FEST”! ❤️
