The group from southwestern Manitoba that manages Camp Koinonia are celebrating their incorporation as a not-for-profit.

They take care of the facilities and guest group rentals, while Camps With Meaning operates the summer camping ministry. The launch party for the not-for-profit entity is at the camp on October 6, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Approximately five years ago, MCM recognized a need to downsize its camping operations and was looking to divest Camp Moose Lake and Camp Koinonia. At that time, a local group of Koinonia supporters looked for ways to continue operations at Camp Koinonia, with their primary purpose being to support Mennonite Church Manitoba’s continued summer camp for children, teens, and adults with disabilities.

Eventually, it was felt that a property management agreement was best for both organizations. With this agreement in place Mennonite Church Manitoba still owns Camp Koinonia, with CK Inc. managing the facilities. CK Inc. is responsible for general maintenance and upkeep, year-round guest group coordination, maintaining the accounts payable and receivable, and the general day to day operations of the camp.

All provincial, municipal, and Manitoba Camping Association guidelines continue to be upheld. Mennonite Church Manitoba has committed to operating a minimum of five weeks of summer camp annually for five years.

Camp Koinonia continues to operate year-round, accepting bookings for all of its facilities. The camp is located about 80 kilometres south of Brandon, near Boissevain, Man.
