Winnipeg Police Service are still looking for answers after a Sunday morning collision claimed the life of one person.

On Sunday, September 23 at 2:50 a.m., emergency personnel were called to St. Mary's Road and Springside Drive after reports of a single vehicle collision.

A 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. No one else was in the vehicle.

WPS Public Information Officer Rob Carver said investigators believe the vehicle lost control, crossed a number of lanes, then collided with a tree.

The cause of the accident is unclear, with Carver noting that they did not know whether alcohol or speed were a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
