A cathedral in Kent has seen hundreds of visitors a day over the last few months thanks to their newest attraction.

Cathedral mini golf has proven a well-loved pastime with visitor numbers doubling this month at the Rochester Cathedral. Already, the place of worship sees hundreds of guests each day, reports Premier.

In the two weeks leading up to August 11, 2019, Rochester Cathedral saw 13,000 visitors; 6,500 more than the same time in 2018.

The success and traction of the mini golf course is something that the Dean of Rochester, the Very Reverend Philip Hesketh, calls "extraordinary."

According to Hesketh, 250 to 300 "young people" venture into the church every day, "loving it and then spending time wandering around the rest of the cathedral."

While visitors are coming to play golf, the cathedral doesn't waste an opportunity to share more with their guests.

"One of the things we do at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. is to pause, for the whole of the cathedral, wherever people are and just have a prayer, and it's been fantastic the way people playing golf have engaged with that as well," shared Hesketh.

Rochester Cathedral's mini golf course is one of several new attempts by churches in the UK to engage with and attract new visitors in new ways.
