The City of Winnipeg and parts of southern Manitoba will experience extreme cold overnight and into Saturday.

Overnight lows are expected to hit -32 for the City of Winnipeg. Outside the capital city, many other areas will also experience lows at or below -30.

While winds will be fairly light it's still enough to push wind chill values well below -40.

In Winnipeg, wind chills are expected to hover around -42 throughout the evening and early morning.

By afternoon wind chills should decrease to -27 with a high of -18.

Environment Canada says that risks are greater for young children, older adults and people with chronic illnesses. Cover up exposed skin to prevent frostbite.
