The Winnipeg Police Association (WPA) and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have teamed up to support the Winnipeg Youth Football Club (WYFC).

The WYFC is run by the Bombers as part of the Blue Bomber Futures program, which gives inner-city youth free flag football coaching for 90 minutes each week during the winter season.

Former Blue Bombers Shawn Gallant and Errol Brown will help assist with the camps, as they will pass along their knowledge and love for football plus sharing some valuable life lessons. They will help out along with former CIS and Junior football players, and some current Blue Bombers.

"We know the positive results of being in sports and making good life decisions," said Maurice Sabourin, president of the WPA. "We felt that this was a great opportunity for us to get together with the youth from the inner-city and be able to provide a service for them to have a lot of fun, and to be healthy at the same time."

Sabourin says that this team-up is important to the WPA because it gives the opportunity for the kids to see police officers as mentors."It's a different atmosphere for the kids to get to know our members," he said.

Over 200 from 12 different schools receive coaching, dinner, T-shirts, and school bus transportation to and from the University of Winnipeg Axworthy Health and RecPlex.
