Square One World Media is celebrating 75 years of sharing the gospel with people across Canada and the world through different forms of media, including their latest documentary.

Ingrid Koss is the Communications Writer at Square One World Media.

"At the time in 1947, radio was relatively new, certainly new to the Mennonite community," says Koss. "This was a group of young Bible school students studying at Mennonite Brethren Bible College. Their idea was that they could reach more people through media, through radio than they could through one-to-one or in church settings."

Koss shares that it felt like a radical move at the time in that denomination.

"Seventy-five years later we're still doing it and trying to be radical with cutting edge with our methods and ideas."

Documentary Celebrating 75 Years

Square One is sharing its history through a documentary called Back to Square One. The first screening and the premier in Winnipeg is being aired on October 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Grant Park Theatre.

"You start digging into the history of any organization and you find such fascinating things," says Koss. "You find the big picture and the individual stories of people who did amazing things or took such risks."

The goal for Square One from the beginning until now has always been to bring glory to God in all they do.

"I'm so inspired, that I want my life also to leave a legacy of doing something bigger and beautiful for God."

Koss hopes that people who come to any of the screenings, online or in person around Winnipeg and southern Manitoba, are also left inspired.

The Beginning to Now

"It started out as one English language program being broadcast on one radio station in Winnipeg. The beginning of CFAM is what helped it branch out into additional languages."

The company started out with the name Gospel Light Hour. In the 1970s it became Mennonite Brethren Communications before it changed to Family Life Network. Most recently they changed the name to what it's known for, Square One World Media.

The Christian media company currently produces video and audio content in multiple languages around the world.
