A man is facing charges after a police dog found him fleeing from a home with a firearm.

Early Friday morning, RCMP officers in Norway House received a report of a man assaulting a 21-year-old woman inside of a home. During the report, officers were told the man had a knife and firearm.

After the 3:05 a.m. report, officers arrived at the Jack River Road home to find the 25-year-old suspect fled, taking the woman with her.

Police Service Dog Linkin was brought to help track the man, finding the firearm in the woods.

Continuing along the trail, officers found the suspect and woman on Paupanekis Point Road.

Once entering the home, police found the suspect and the victim, who had minor injuries.

The man is facing  Assault and weapons offences charges.
