Authorities say they have arrested a Winnipeg man after learning of plans to block the roads connecting to IG Field before a major event.

The Winnipeg Police Service says their Major Crimes Unit learnt that an anti-vaccination protest was being planned for August 5 before the Winnipeg Blue Bombers home opener. To attend the game all spectators will need to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and have proof.

The protest being planned was looking to block all roads entering IG Field before the game.

A 39-year-old from Winnipeg whom police say was leading this had been previously bound by a court order, prohibiting him from promoting and organizing gatherings contrary to the Public Health Act's orders.

The man was arrested and is facing a Failing to Comply with Condition of Release Order charge.
