A fiery crash Tuesday night near Piney claimed the life of a woman's service dog.

RCMP say just after 10:30 p.m., a Dodge pickup truck collided head-on with a Toyota Camry on Highway #12 about ten miles northwest of Piney. The car burst into flames.

Emergency responders found the driver of the car outside her vehicle, being assisted by a passerby.

Police say the 37-year-old woman, who is from the Sprague area, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. However, they add, her service dog did not make it out of the vehicle alive.

The driver of the truck, a 27-year-old male from Winnipeg, was not seriously injured.

Investigators say alcohol was a factor in the collision.
