There were several accidents in Winnipeg Wednesday morning and large traffic delays throughout the city.

At 8:00 a.m. callers reported large lineups in opposite ends of the city.

Northbound traffic on St. Mary's was backed up from the downtown to the Perimeter Highway. That's because of construction on St. Mary's at Vivian. The City of Winnipeg says crews repairing water lines in the area had to close to right-hand lanes.

Meanwhile, southbound traffic on Route 90 was backed up from Logan to the Perimeter Highway. Icy conditions on that road, combined with a semi unable to gain traction going up the hill at the Logan underpass combined there.

Several accidents

As of 8:10 a.m. eastbound Redwood was blocked to traffic at Main St. because of an accident. The City of Winnipeg is asking people to take an alternate route.

An early morning accident at Marion and Archibald also caused long delays as several lanes were closed. That accident has since been cleared and all lanes are open.

There were several other accidents Wednesday morning which saw vehicles end up on medians and light standards knocked down.

The City of Winnipeg has crews out clearing major streets and sanding as well. However, icy conditions remain. Motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions around them.
