The Winnipeg Police Service is asking for people to come forward with information after a man was assaulted and killed by a group of people two years ago.

The assault took place on August 9, 2020, at 1:20 a.m. outside an establishment in the 1400 block of St. Matthews Ave. Anthony Evaristo Gonzales, a 30-year-old male from Winnipeg, succumbed to his injuries following the assault.

The suspects fled the area and police continue to investigate the case to this day.

Investigators in the Homicide Unit believe numerous witnesses were present at the time and have valuable information that will assist in the investigation.

"The Gonzales family would like the investigation to be resolved to bring peace and closure to their family," the WPS says in a release on the second anniversary of his death.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
