While the Jets made an earlier exit from the playoffs than hoped, fans took full advantage of the short time they did have to celebrate. And the United Way says the community will benefit as a result.

This year organizers of the Whiteout Street Party decided to add a small fee to tickets in hopes that would ensure people used the tickets they claimed. They said that the money collected would go to the United Way to distribute to organizations working to address addiction, homelessness, and mental health.

A total of 29,300 fans attended the three Street Parties this year. The United Way said in a press release that the "2019 #WPGWhiteout Street Parties brought our city together! . . . And in the process, did more than just galvanize our community spirit, it also created a lasting legacy for our community."

That lasting legacy is a total of $162,555 raised in support of a total of nine agencies.

The agencies that will take a share of the funds raised are:

  • Bruce Oake Foundation
  • EAGLE Urban Transition Centre
  • End Homelessness Winnipeg
  • House of Peace
  • Main Street Project
  • Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba
  • North Point Douglas Women’s Centre
  • Siloam Mission
  • Spence Neighbourhood Community Renewal Corporation

The United Way says that the organizations will receive their money by May 18. Each organization will be reporting back to the United Way on how these specific funds were used and the impact they had on the city as a result.
